The Ancient IBM PC

This website is mainly dedicated to information about the very first generation of PCs, allthough some information here relates to more recent hardware.

IBM originally released the PC in late 1981, and within years it had captured much of the comercial microcomputer market. Quite shortly after release, lots of clones were released, but the first successfull and legal clone was not made before 1982, when Compaq released their 'Portable' PC. From there on 3rd party development took off, and the overall result is the PC market we have today.
